Apologies for the late report back on last Thurday
Despite earnest questioning by the powers that be at that happy old age home for Cessna's near a circular motorway near a forest patronised by loud motor cycles (I digress) - as to whether I had sufficient experience to talk to Farnborough Radar and set a squawk code (obviously I looked the type who had spent all his flying time in a non-radio Tiger Moth), the special procedures were no problem at all and FARN R provided a helpful "Traffic Service".
I was instructed to stay in the circuit until getting permission but in the event I had been all okayed by the time I reached circuit height after take off.
The weather was something else, though. I only got going well after lunch and then had to fly to Oxford and back at under 1800 feet.
