The laptop in question was running a Kinetic SBS virtual radar box, the hardware comes in a modem sized box connected by USB to any windows computer, it costs about £400.

Alternatively you can download this software called planeplotter, it allows access to a website which hosts uploaded sbs data from users around the world

The drawback to this software is that it will only show aircraft that are plotting full information, a very large portion of aircraft (military, biz jets, emb types) dont transpond lat long info so will not plot. The SBS box receives these aircraft and displays in list form.
