I think that facts have to be faced. The Heathrow connection is gone and will not be returning
Agreed, "gone but not forgotten!"
The way forward for most regional airports in the next 3/5 yrs has got to be mass transport to the "despised" bucket and spade resorts.
Agree but only to a point. When you have virtually no services at all and are looking to expand with obvious step up of based aircraft with seating capacity approaching 200 then you need "volume" to support operations before you can look at the development of "thin" routes. Problem at DTV at present in current environment is supply vs demand, the demand is needed to support the level of revenue available from seat prices, but such demand at DTV is undemined by the supply at alternate departure points. Throwing more supply into "bucket & spade" destinations is in the current ecconomic environment only going to drive prices downward as pax no.'s in aggregate are likely to be static, potentially great news for punters, but no use at all for airlines struggling in a recession or more to the point for DTV.
