The TAA bus.
G'day Animalclub. I must have rode those buses a thousand times, but for the life of me, cannot remember the split level bit. There were several buses and maybe one had a luggage hold underneath at the back, for pax to the mess or elsewhere. The one photo I can find just shows the normal Coaster type shape. Those buses were kept busy with pax, staff, and crew pick-ups and drop-offs. With the general lack of telephones they were also used to deliver messages to off-duty staff, including from Ops. to married pilots' homes. The driver had to deliver the message, get it signed, and return it to Ops. As you might imagine they often got caught in some crossfire. If all else failed you could always catch most at the mess from about 1700, which was a wonderful excuse to be there yourself, and again, often produced some entertaining conversation. Cheers. Barry.
