Strathearn is indeed these days a pale shadow of itself in the late 70s and 80s. Back then there was all sorts from Vulcans heading up into the glens, Phantoms almost every other day, a 'D' Flight Wessex from Leuchars heading off to pick up another daytripper in sandals and string vest from the top of a mountain, Harriers, Buccaneers, Hawks & Hercules (usually in pairs). About the only thing I never saw in the area from the then current inventory was the Lightning. Though I made up for that with Annual Camp as a spacey at RAF Binbrook in 1986
Then there was all the foreign stuff: the F-111s certainly knew how to push the low flying limits. It might be considered a mildly heretical statement but in those days they certainly seemed to be the lowest (& noisiest) of all the low fliers!
