Thomson sells complete Holidays. A Holiday is more than just the flight element. That's just the bit that gets the passengers there and back.
There is no need for Thomson to compete with Ryanair as they cater to entirely different markets.
Thomson do Holidays for people who want to fly direct to their chosen resort with their own airline (Thomson Airways), and then continue with the rest of the package and enjoy a nice experience from start to finish.
Ryanair do scheduled flights which get you to an outlying field
maybe somewhere
near where you want to end up for your holidays.
It's aimed at people who don't want to pay the money to fly with a proper airline, but ironically usually end up paying as much if not more due to not reading all the 'fine print'.
Simple as that.
