A Class 1 (if not renewed) reverts to a Class 2, with the validity appropriate to the age of the holder at the date of the original examination.
The JAA Class 1 medical certificate states the following:
"A Class 1 medical certificate is acceptable for Class 2 privileges and validities".
It also includes boxes setting out the relevant expiry dates for both Class 1 and Class 2.
