It may be the exchange that is cutting you off rather than your settings.
Either way if you are dialup you may wish to download "Download Accelerator +" (
Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) - Free Download Manager) This wont actualling increase the speed of your downloads in this instance but it will allow you to resume your downloads from where they left off if your connection is severed.
