A plea to cost-cutting hour-builders

A bit of a strange one this, but after a recent PM, I'd like to make a request to all of you that will be doing hour-building at some point as part of your road to the CPL.

Please, please, please don't even contemplate falsifying hours in order to take a 'short cut' to getting the necessary hours for starting training and then licence issue.

After querying a post about sharing the costs hour-building, I received a PM from someone asking if I was interested in the idea of going to say Florida, renting a aircraft for a block of hours, both being in the aircraft for the duration of the block hours, both claiming the full hours of the block in their logbook but only paying half-each.

I cannot stress how idiotic and irresponsible this would be. I fully understand the temptation to take a financial shortcut, especially in these difficult times, but the implications of such an act are wide-reaching. Ignoring the blatantly illegal nature of this, you would also be doing yourself out of valuable experience which would arguably show up at some point further down your training.

As for the CAA catching up with you, well, you'd better be prepared to bend over and take it. And that's just for starters.

So kids, think about it - it's a bad shortcut that really isn't worth taking. Do the time and enjoy it!
