Unlikely unless the flight was intended to be a circuit at Sandtoft. Otherwise, more likely a first solo Navex or first X-country field to field.
Beeb talking head reported A/C flew in from another airfield, instructor got out, accident happened shortly after departure on 'first solo' flight IIRC. The departure airfield may not allow first solo's, some airfields don't. Eye/ear witnesses reported according to the reporter hearing a bang and 'the tail going up'
