muppet, if you mean educational quals then that is not strictly true.
5 GCSE and 2-A have the same chance as an MSc, 2-A and 5 GCSE and regardless of these even if you have an MSc you won't get in the door without English or Maths.
The educational quals are simply the first coarse filter. Medical is then the next somewhat less coarse filter.
The real competition arises from the aptitude scores, interview and leadership tests. It is true however that those with better quals will probably be more successful but that is only because the qualification are a reasonable indicator or ability.
