Yes if you do professional lic in UK now it is under JAR Ops which means you do have to do the initial JAA Class1 at London Gatwick HQ. However your UK Med renewal can be done in Asia or anywhere that has Authorised AME. KL has an Authorised Examiner plus one in Singapore.
MY FAA AME (Thai Doctor) in Bangkok was talking about approval too.
