You also need to see the canyon from the ground, south rim is easiest to get to and has the touristy things and also gives a great view. If you have time you should drive from Vegas (take the best part of a day but a few things to see on the way, Route 66 is part of it) and take a helicopter tour from Grand Canyon airport itself.
