The two interviewers had been joking with me at the beginning of the interview about how I’m from “ooup north” and the job was based at LGW. Nearing the end of the interview they as me; “Why should we employ you?” My answer, “well, I’m northern, you’re an equal opportunities employer, it would make your statistics look good.” Id said it without even thinking and I remember thinking at the time, that was either really fecking dumb or really fecking good. What must have only been a second, but seemed like days they both burst out laughing and said they had never heard that response to that question before. I was offered a jet job the day after.
A bit of humor goes a long way in the right circumstances, it proves you’re a real person and not just a robot.
