This idea may not work but I've heard it does:-
How about paying the amount you expect to need into your credit card before you go? It's not often you will be in credit with a credit card!
You can then use your card to pay for the flying and living costs while in the US; you won't have to make monthly payments back home because you'll be in the black; and you will have the usual credit card protection.
Note: You must call your credit card company to let them know you'll be abroad
before you go or they may stop your card due to the foreign transactions.
