Thanks F3G - I thought you might have had experience of the 'system'.
So it's definitely the case that all inbound pax get screened - I had wondered if we'd been given special treatment because our flight was from an Arabic country.
Does this happen anywhere else? I haven't experienced it arriving at other Italian destinations, but it's been a couple of years.
