Hmm, how would he have scored on the Pre-flight I'M SAFE checklist. For the un-initiated:
Illnes
Medication (or perhaps Medical in this case)
Stress
Alcohol
Fatigue
Emotional

My opinion: just plain stupid, deserves what he got!
