You overstate the relevance of your correction ("...rain on your parade.." oh! purrlease!!!)
The fact is they were BOTH B777's, BOTH had RR Trent engines, BOTH originated in CHINA & BOTH had long cruises at high cruising levels in extremely cold temperatures.
I'm NOT saying that incorrect ratios of fuel additives was the cause, however, I don't think it was explored as thoroughly as it could have been during the investigation, certainly when compared to the scrutiny the airframe/engine hardware/software had to endure.
