Guarantors or Sureties
Guarantors (SIA uses the word 'Sureties') can be family or friends. SIA does not normally check on the financial background of the Sureties. If the Cadet Pilot (SIA uses the word 'Trainee') does not live up to his part of the agreement, the penalty (SIA uses the word 'liquidated damages') is S$150,000.00 reducing to zero when at the 7th year as First Officer.
