It indeed saved me a few hundred quid, even after giving a nice bundle to the A&P/IA who does it with me (a freelance engineer; another rarity under JAA/EASA) but the point is that while I don't mind much doing this, it is practical only for short jobs and most engineers won't work in these conditions (it's bad for the joints
