To give you an idea of the difference in performance between the colder southern climates I was lucky enough to sit up the front of a B1900 while zipping along at 20 Grand a month ago. We were grounding about 230-kts yet the Kiwi pilots said that in NZ in similar conditions it would be about 290-300kts. So yeah - Darwin like many tropical areas has its own unique challenges.
