EI-FR
Any comments on consequences for ORK regarding potential EI-FR merger.
Other threads suggesting that merger a real possibility. The pitch appears to be that EI-FR short haul traffic at cheap prices can be used to fill and expand transatlantic flights out of SNN and DUB. Also suggesting the added attraction of pre-clearance will act as an incentive for continental passengers to fly to the US via SNN/DUB. Anyone know what stats are of EU passengers deliberately rounting through DUB and SNN because of price and pre-clearance.
Obviously this would have serious consequences for ORK as EI presence would be scaled back in any deal.
Hope our local reps are actively pointing this out to govt. as it makes its deliberations on whether or not this national aviation policy is a good one. With a govt. in panic over budget deficits, could see how the FR-EI merger might sound attractive - net govt. couple of million for disposal of shares and persuade the people that this policy will result in thousands of Europeans flying through DUB or SNN generating plenty of jobs!
