Power By The Hour
The most likely reason that a company sets a SOP to shutdown the APU after Ext Pwr is connected and restart just before STD will be due to a power by the hour agreement for the APU's.
Therefore less operating hours equals less $$$$$.
The bean counters, as always, rule the roost!
