Post Education..

Hello to you all.

i am writing to both managers and to fellow pilots.
There are a few questions that need to be asked?

Are we getting stronger as a union or is management getting on top?
Do we think we deserve the current conditions or do we deserve better?
Are we fighting to do some thing to improve our conditions or are we idly standing by waiting for something to happen to spur us on?
Would you like to do some thing to strengthen our position against the company?

If like me you would like to do some thing, do this..

When on a trip, talk to the other officers you are flying with. Talk about the current situation(s). Talk about how the company dont want to pay out a profit share, yet will take large management bonuses. Talk about the "paper loss" due to poorly managed fuel hedging and the fact the "paper loss" has been taken in one year when the hedging contracts are spread over multiple years... Talk about your personal mailbox being raided to stop percieved anti company mail getting into the mail box ( and to avoid it getting too full!! ). Talk to your fellow officers about the past and what happened in SARS and how a short period later we made RECORD profits. Talk about how this years earnings are 4% down ( 4% down from a RECORD year!! ). Talk about how CX pays twice as much as other airlines to HAECO for maintenance. ( HINT: HAECO doesnt have a profit share scheme and is owned by Swire.. maybe shareholders should find out about that too( same team same dream )). Talk about the 3 man ultra long haul proposals. Talk about the fact that airlines doing ULR 3 man have 48hours+ downroute to recover from the REAL FATIGUE. ( do passengers think it is safe for pilots to fly round the world , not rest then fly back again?, after all SAFETY is Cathay's 1st on the list for Corporate objectives ..) remember, there once were plenty of pilots... Talk about how Cathay are purchasing aircraft as fast as they can...

When things on the flightdeck have mellowed, educate people. Educate them that unless they stand up, take charge of their own personal battles, join the HKAOA and be represented, things will change very quickly within this company. do we really need things to get worse? Can we stop it?

YES WE CAN...

What can I do? If someone shows interest in joining the HKAOA on a flight, get their details ( email / mob ph ) and email it to hkaoa @ hkaoa.org with Subject "New Member"

We can all do something to help.

Each of us must do our share.
