My ruer is that if you can see any shiny metal (the chrome plating) then you are OK. If you look on the leg there is a graph which shows the length against the pressure. Except for a B747 which has pressure gauges, you wont know the pressure unless a tech attaches a gauge for you and measures it. But if you can see shiny metal, the leg hasn't collapsed and will still work.
