Apple Service have a habit of removing RAM that hasn't been supplied by them, stating "It is not compatible" or "It is faulty". They are additionally naughty in not returning it either, even if they don't refit it. I would ask for the RAM back, saying that if the RAM is faulty you want the opportunity to return it to the supplier for refund. You bought it after all!
