My theory:

1. Employed 50 pilots too many on the assumption that 50 pilots from VB would take up the VAUS flying, because this offer was such a joke, no one took it. Hence, 50 pilots too heavy now at VB.

2. How does the company fix this problem. They use the old annual leave trick as an excuse to scare the pilots into taking their annual leave or be made redundant. What this does is reduce their leave balance costs (granted), but more importantly:

HAY PRESTO, THERE IS NOW DIRECT ENTRY COMMANDS AT PB BASED IN BRISBANE AND SOME POSITIONS AT VAUS WE CANT FILL AND IF YOU DONT TAKE THESE POSITIONS YOU ARE FIRED! THESE POSITIONS ARE NOT ON VB TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

This is all a tactic to get more pilots on private contracts, the HR manager at the V group has stated this is his goal, ITS HAPPENING AND ITS REAL, A CAPT AT PB GETS PAID APPROX. WHAT AN FO GETS PAID AT VB.

FOS AT VB NEED TO STAND TALL NOW AND WAIT RIGHT TO THE END UNTILL THE COMPANY HAS TO TRANSFER YOU TO PB OR VAUS ON YOUR CURRENT PAY AND CONDITIONS. IF WE ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN, WE WOULD HAVE HIT AN ALL TIME LOW IN THIS COUNTRY FOR PAY AND CONDITIONS. HAVE A LONG THINK ABOUT IT BRFORE YOU TAKE A DEC AT PB.
