Whils't on a sabatical at the Deid earlier this year, gave a lift to some guys waiting at one of the bus stops. Turned out he was a Yank Controller/LNO at Kabul, ex Upper Heyford who knew my ex SATCO who was at UH as a RAFLO many moons ago - like you say - small world, but maybe a close-knit one.
