As some one who is currently rated on both the A320 & B737NG may I bring some comments to this debate with a look at A320 v B738.
The Boeing is faster, flies higher, can take more pax, can lift a greater load, can lift that load from a shorter runway, is much better in X-wind and turbulence.
The Airbus has a better CAT3 capability and a better working environment.
In short the Boeing is better in all the important places and the Airbus is a better place to have lunch.................................. a bit like France!
