The XL aircraft in MAN for instance had tractors parked behind them, not to prevent them from moving, but as a symbolic stance.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does parking tractors behind aircraft symbolise? Admittedly, I'm not in the aviation industry, I assumed it was merely to prevent unauthorised aircraft movements.
