Passenger numbers at Kent International Airport are set to swell dramatically over the next few decades.
Bosses have been unveiling their 25-year masterplan at the site in Manston, Thanet.
At the moment 26,000 people pass through the airport every year but that is far short of the current 700,000 capacity.
By 2011 the airport hopes to increase annual passenger numbers to 2 million and then up to 6 million people a year by 2033.
It is hoped that in the future people will be able to fly from Kent to cities like Dublin, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Manchester.
Executives from the airport say an extensive consultation period will now get under way to discuss the plans with local people, members of parliament and airlines.
However many local people say that before the airport can hope to increase its passenger numbers, transport to the airport needs to be improved.
Shadow transport minister and MP for Canterbury, Julian Brazier said: "It’s an example of an airport with a very large, potentially very exciting runway, but only a relatively low level of business at the moment because their rail links are so poor."

The whole thing is available from the airports website: Kent International Airport
It doesn't seem that infratil will be departing manston in the near future as has been suggested by the doom mongers on here
