This makes three times that Trincomalee has been posted
FWIW and from someone who served there, the airfield referred to as Trincomalee is in fact at China Bay, about five miles across the bay from the Royal Navy base at Trincomalee.
The airfield and flying boat alighting area was originally called RAF China Bay and in 1939 was the home to 273 Sqn equipped with rather ancient Vildebeests. Control of RAF China Bay was handed over to the Royal Navy in 1944 when it assumed the title "RNAS Trincomalee". In 1947 the airfield was handed back to the RAF and reverted once again to it's original title of "RAF China Bay".
The RAF departed China Bay in late 1957 when the airfield was handed over to the Sri Lanka airforce. Strictly speaking photos appearing in Which Aerodrome under the heading "Trincomalee" should be of 1944 - 47 vintage, any others will be of RAF China Bay (and I have many).
