NVQ = National Vocational Qualification, sort of like the apprenticeship system in OZ and NZ, with your employment + various corses + assesment giving you a nationally recognised qualification which shows you have achieved a certain level of competence in you chosen field. You can complete it in all sorts of things, but only relevant over here in the UK
