While on the subject of near misses I seem to remember the case of the executive jet on approach to 26 in thick fog when Luton was only CAT1. The aircraft under shot the approach and took out some of the approach lights snapping off the lighting columns at the start of the approach lights. I guess this must have been in the 80's
