Alderney might not be the best place to try if you haven't tried a runway that has a cliff at one end and is reasonably short!
Alderney is a wonderful place. Friendly people, beautiful scenery and you can walk into town from the airport. The runway isn't THAT short!
St Valery is another lovely place. Land at Dieppe, clear customs then a ten minute flight. Grass field, no landing fees, friendly people. Nice hotel in the town by the harbour. Can't remember what it's called though.
