Skyways closing Arlanda-based operations - The Local
Swedish budget airline Skyways is planning to shutter its base of operations at Stockholm’s
Arlanda airport.
Despite the move, the airline will continue to serve Stockholm's primary airport with various domestic routes.
The move will result in 77 out of 118 pilots losing their jobs, as well as the approximately 30 cabin staff who are based at Arlanda, reports Gotlands Tidningar.
“The atmosphere is very worrying,” said pilot union representative Thomas Dahby to the newspaper.
Skyways has recently shelved three major initiatives, including an agreement with Gotlandsflyg, a route to Tampere in
Finland, as well as routes between Arlanda and destinations in northern Sweden.
The company maintains six routes, all of which are domestic, except for one between
Karlstad in central Sweden and the Danish capital of
Copenhagen.
Other remaining routes include links from Arlanda to Karlstad, Halmstad, Jönköping, Krinstianstad, and Visby.
