What is the reason behind setting 1+F?

Hi all,
I was going to ask this question as a new post, but this thread seems as good a place as any for it.
On arrival in Phoenix a couple of days ago after landing, as pax, I wondered why the flaps weren't returned to up after landing. I pick up on these kind of things being a bit of a geek. I duly made a point of looking at the other parked "Airbii" and noticed the same config on all.
At least you've cleared it up that it's an Airbus procedure to set Flaps 1 when hotter than 30deg outside, but what's the reason for this?? I have a few ideas but won't bore anyone... It's been bugging me now for the last few days!
