I recall an exchange of "letters to the editor" in AW&ST about 1984 - One writer pointed out (I am not making this up!) that you could always tell how many engines a Boeing jet had by the model - a 747 had 4 engines, a 737 had three, and a 727 had two.

But the next week a wag asked "OK, smarty, how many engines does a 707 have?"
