There are just too many variables to give a blanket advice here, every installation is different and has its own quirks.
As a general rule (now contradicting my own words above
) however, you can rarely go wrong with a hot engine by starting the process from totally lean. IOW, no primer, throttle just a tiny bit open, crank and perhaps (if you sense the engine is about to 'come') push throttle a couple of times while turning over. Usually works for carb engines. YMMV......
