Destruction costs money. Unless there is a health and safety reason, or a need to remove it, it is cheaper to leave it in situ.
There was a plan for redundant buildings to be demolished in 2006/07 as an economy measure against future expenditure and it would save on council rates and come off the resource accounting bill, as MOD has to pay a cost-of-ownership of its resources to the Treasury each year.
The in-year money dried up and demolition plans were shelved.
