An Air Europa pilot dies of a heart attack in a Palma-Barcelona flight

A 56 year old commander of the company Air Europe, suffered an infarct in flight while it was to the controls of an airplane Boeing 737, which with 135 passengers on board was getting ready for approach at the airport of Barcelona. The alarm happened at 11:50, Dec. 24th and it ended up with the captain's passing away, but without danger for the passage, when the first officer took control of the plane.

The plane, that covered the Palm-Barcelona flight, could land without trouble thanks to serenity and skill that first officer Guil demonstrated , before the incapacity from the pilot in command, that passed away in few minutes. This type of airplanes is commanded by only two crew, a main pilot and one assistant.

The incident was not let known to the passage until the airplane landed in the Prat, in the middle of the habitual measures for cases of urgency and danger, with unfolding of ambulances and equipment of security. The emergency ramp was enabled for the transfer of the victim, who was taken care of, once the plane was completely still, by two physicians from among the passengers, who practiced the resuscitation actions in vain. Later, the hospital could only certify its death.
