<FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size=2><DIV class=Section1><DIV>Philippine carrier Asian Spirit, which recently underwent an ownership change, has ordered five Xian Aircraft MA60 turboprops for delivery this year and is looking to buy two second-hand Airbus A320s and place an order for two new A320s.
Asian Spirit executive VP and chief operating officer Eliseo Tabora says the company has purchased five MA60s with two to be delivered at the end of September, one in November and two in December.
These aircraft will be used domestically in competition against Cebu Pacific Air’s ATR 72-500s and PAL Express’ Bombardier Q300s and Q400s.
The airline plans to have five sets of crew for each MA60 and half the pilots that will operate the aircraft are currently at Xian Aircraft in China undergoing simulator and other training, says Tabora.
He says Asian Spirit earlier looked at the ATR 72-500 and Bombardier Q-series but one reason it chose the MA60 is because the Chinese manufacturer could deliver the aircraft this year.
