What works for me, teaching multi engine students and even those who want help:
Fly for blue line, straight ahead throughout the exercise
Everything UP (gear, flap)
Everything FORWARD (both sets of throttles, props and mixtures)
IDENTIFY (dead leg works best)
CONFIRM (throttle closed)
FEATHER
Mixture ICO
COWL FLAP closed.
