I think maybe he's referring to the Airbus ones (I assume the A310 has similar ones to A320 family) which extend and retract.
I don't suppose that damn big stick in between your legs on the boeings is conducive to those type of footrests.
The triple does have footrests, just not the moveable ones like the 'bus.
