Heard today, very third hand, of an aircraft attempting to get into Alice Springs late Saturday night that hit the shrubbery on the top of the Macdonnell Range.
I believe the aircraft is still parked on the GA ramp at Alice Springs.
Now Saturday in the GAFA was one of those rare days of rain in the desert, low cloud, cold and drizzle. Doesn't happen all that often but when it does it makes all the locals go blue. A number of charter flights to Finke in association with the Desert Race had to be cancelled due to the cloud. Not a day for VFR flying at all.
Does anyone know the real story? The suppositions flying about at the moment don't bear thinking about because if true then the pilot seriously lacks some decision making skills.
