I see your in Aus but just out of interest in the UK I was told we can only use approach plates from the AIP for reference, probably because they are not ammended every couple of weeks like the Jepps/Aerad, could be talking rubbish of course.

Was working for a company a couple of years ago and basically it was 'here is your helicopter get on with it', well I needed some plates and found at that time Jepps were a lot cheaper so got them, the rest of the pilots had used Aerad for years, there next set of plates were Jepps.

Aerad plates are nice to look at but in the whole package there is just more of everything, more plates, supplements to lose, etc. Jepps seem a bit more user friendly not as pretty mind and if you have to go some place strange you can get hold of someone and they will fax them over if time is short.

If you can read a plate go for Jepps, if your going to work for a company like Bristow or CHC they tell you what to use and of course you won't be buying your own.
