Upon reviewing the photo of the incident, that tail pipe fire looked a little more serious than just a little fuel being burnt off. Have a look at the fairing behind the engine. A good amount of charring left behind.
I would have opened the door and gone.
Anyone remember the off duty BA cabin crew member that started an evacuation during push-back because of a small tail pipe fire?
