I am in strong agreement with those who advise being frugal at the beginning and not spending money on gadgets. In 40+ years of flying, I have lost track of all the gadgets I have purchased and later abandoned. Jackets, sunglasses, caps etc may make you feel good but will not make you better pilot. My suggestion: spend your money on a copy of Shawn Coyle's book "Cyclic & Collective." This is a well written, easy to read, and comprehensive book on the practical aspects of flying helicopters, with just enough theory here and there to promote better understanding. I believe that you will progress faster in your training when you understand what is coming and why; this book enables that understanding in a way that is enjoyable rather than a burden.
