I thought it was shorter. Other reasons that would affect the decision:
work in progress?
weather
aircraft weight
serviceability of the aircraft
experience on the aircraft
The pilots would have had a good reason to decide to jettison. Nobody wants to throw a vast amount of fuel away for no good reason.
