Apparently, when a species is under great stress or threat, it tends to produce more females than males. The explanation was that one male can impregnate several females to keep the species going, while a lot of males with few females are pretty useless.
So a mate who studied biology told me; so if you've got a stressful job, you're more likely to produce girls!
